Saturday Morning Coffee for Saturday, April 25, 2020
Your Host Reese Boyd and Producer Glenn Dye discuss ongoing news and analysis related to the Coronavirus pandemic. Also, Case Brittain, Candidate for SC House District 107, joins the show to talk about his campaign and why he is running for the S.C. House of Representatives.
Coronavirus Update: we discuss all the things that we appreciate more now as a result of the "shelter in place" and quarantine orders. Reese discusses how toilet paper rationing has come to the Boyd household, and we reflect on life in a land of unprecedented abundance, and the many things we have to be thankful for. We discuss the economic side of the quarantine and the economic lock-down, and whether continuing the quarantine orders are justified, or whether we should open our economy back up. Reese Boyd discusses soaring unemployment numbers and the massive human suffering that has been unleashed by the economic shut-down. Reese and Glenn discuss the IMHE and other models public health officials have relied upon which have massively overstated the COVID-19 mortality rates we are observing now that the actual data is becoming available. Reese discusses how Democrats have been peddling fear and panic on this issue. Reese discusses how both reasons given for the massive shut down of our economy - the massive death tolls and the anticipated overwhelming of the health care system - have not materialized.
Candidate Interview with Case Brittain: Reese gives some free advice to all political candidates and Case Brittain drops in to the show to discuss his campaign for S.C. House District 107.
Fiscal and Monetary Troubles Ahead: Reese discusses his concerns about the massive federal deficit, and the huge blow to our fiscal house that the COVID-19 bailout programs represent, and the very real danger that a fiscal and monetary crisis is looming over the horizon. We discuss just one example of some of the wasteful spending in the COVID-19 bailout package, and the (very good) idea being bandied about Washington - a payroll tax holiday.
Closing: Reese discusses the streaming habits of Americans stuck in their homes for quarantine, and we conclude the show with our Parting Wisdom Segment.
Thanks for listening!
